St. Mary’s School, Naroda, is one of the strong arms of St. Mary’s OSC Public Trust. The Trust has been spearheading its multifarious charitable, religious, social and educational activities from Ahmedabad since 1960. St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, registered as a Public Trust and Society, in Ahmedabad, in the year 1977, is the local Parish unit of Indian Orthodox Church generally known as ‘ Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church’. This Church was founded in India by St. Thomas, one of the 12 direct Apostles of Lord Jesus Christ, who came to India, in AD 52, and is one of the most ancient Christian Churches in the whole world. It is indigenous, independent and Indian in culture, following various ancient Indian traditions and is oriental (eastern) in worship. This Church, right from its beginning in India in the first century, besides focusing and preserving the gifts received from its founder, viz. faith, prayer and worship, has been focusing on spreading knowledge and imparting education in the given situation by appropriate means including gurukul and cottage systems. It has been taking special care for maintaining social harmony, improving moral values and upliftment of every human being irrespective of caste or creed. The School building was inaugurated by Shri Hasmukhbhai Patel, the ten Hon’ble Education Minister of Gujarat on 4th July, 1988. The School was shifted to new premises, from rental building on 15th July, 1988. The High School section of the school was started in June 1990. The success saga of the school soared to new heights when the first batch of SSC students appeared for the Gujarat State Secondary Education Board Exam and secured 100% result in March 1993. This excellent result has been continued consecutively in all the subsequent years. The mushrooming growth spearheaded its glorious way and the school started its Higher Secondary Section (both Science and Commerce Stream) on 23rd July, 1997. Fr. V. Daniel was the first Principal of the Higher Secondary Section. The first batch of H.S.C. Students appeared for Board Exam in March 1999 and the Commerce Stream made the School proud by securing 100% result. The result has been maintained till date. Subsequently, the Science Stream also made the School proud with the same result in the recent years. Hence the School achieved the outstanding performance with 100 percent result in all the Board Examinations. The credit for the excellent results undoubtedly goes to the Principal and dedicated team of teachers for their relentless hard work and motivation to the students and their parents. The year 2006-07 was celebrated as the Silver Jubilee Year of the School. The celebrations started with the inaugural function on 27.01.2006 by Mrs. Sunaita Tomar, Commissioner of Higher Education, Govt. of Gujarat. The management announced various programmes connected with the silver jubilee, such as (a) forming an Alumni Association, (b) Starting literacy drive for the downtrodden and economically and socially backward children, (c) Starting computer education for the poor students, (d) Publishing a Silver Jubilee Souvenir, (e) Building a Silver Jubilee Activity Hall, (f) Starting a Medical Centre for rendering free medical services to the public at large especially poor and downtrodden and (g) starting a Counselling centre for the students. The Valedictory function was held on 18.01.2007.
