The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted in India for graduates in engineering and science disciplines. It serves as a gateway for admission to postgraduate programs (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education, as well as for entry-level engineering jobs in various public sector undertakings (PSUs).

GATE is organized jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The exam is usually held in February, and the results are announced in March. The exam tests candidates' comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. It is highly competitive and requires rigorous preparation in subjects related to the candidate's discipline. Apart from India, GATE scores are also accepted by some universities and institutes outside the country for admissions to postgraduate programs.
