Full form of PING is Packet InterNet Groper.

PING is a computer network administration software or utility software which is used to test their connection of network between the two systems. There may be any kind of category of these systems such as, Router, Gateway, Server, Switch or commonly used personal computer.

It was mainly produced for making sure or to confirm the existence of the personal computer on the network about whether it is available or not on the network.

History

The PING utility software was developed by Mike Muussas in December,1983. It is used for troubleshooting the problems.

David Mills’s idea for the designing and creation was the inspiration for PING utility software.

For IP network diagnostic and measurement, the ICMP echo packets are used by him.

The first launched version was the public domain software and this version and all the versions are also licensed under the BSD license.

The first done ping was consist of 4.3BSD.

Erick Engelke has developed the FreeDOS version and licensed under the GPL.

Tim Crawford has developed the ReactOS version and licensed under the MIT.

How PING works

By transmitting the ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) echo request packets to the destination target host, PING working can be operated. and can continue by holding the response from that ICMP echo.

The program review shows the packet loss, errors and the summary of review descriptions, which generally defining the mean round trip times, maximum, minimum and standard mean variations.
