Full form of IG

IG stands for Inspector General of Police.

In the Indian Police Services, IG is a senior police officer. Generally, this rank refers to the head of a large regional command of police services. The entitle of IG is promoted when an IPS officer completes 19 years of police service.

IG is charged with entire administrative management of police force and may perform the functions suggested by national legislation according to exercises independent command.

In other way, Civil Services Examination also known as Group which conducted by State Public Service Commission (SPSC), one can join as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in his/her home state.

The IG reports to the Attorney General regarding Senate confirmation.

He can overtake the range of SP and DIG during any emergency.

IG is the link between the District office and DIG.

He may give advice or instructions and control to SP and DIGs of his range to be aware.

To maintain the high level of discipline and efficiency, IG can pay attention towards the training of Armed Reserves.

He is authorized for taking all the information of all serious cases related to misconduct of officer in his range.

He can advice and guide in serious matters to his range DIGs and SPs.

He can call personal enquiries in serious cases.
