Full form of PVC
i) First Full form of PVC
Full form of PVC is Poly Vinyl Chloride.
PVC is a plastic polymer which is used by polymerization of vinyl chloride. It is a kind of thermoplastic material and it melts on heating and solidifies on cooling. PVC is used for manufacturing various products like, pipes, cables, bottles and raincoats. It is the world’s third most produced synthetic plastic polymer after polyethylene and polypropylene.
How PVC manufactured
The chlorination of ethylene produces the Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM). And it a pyrolysis of ethylene dichloride (EDC). And polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) produces PVC.
The formula of PVC,
CH2=CHCI = [CH2-CHCI]-n
For manufacturing PVC, there are two methods used commercially and which are given below:
E-PVC : Bulk or Emulsion
S-PVC : Suspension PVC
The Key Properties of PVC
PVC is very lightweight, durable, versatile and cost effective.
It is resistant to corrosion, shock, abrasion, chemical rotting.
PVCs are self extinguishing because of high chlorine content.
It is resistant for all inorganic chemicals.
It has good mechanical as well as physical properties.
Needs low maintenance.
It has long life span.
Applications of PVC
PVC is one of the most important and widely used plastic materials. The applications of PVC are:
It is used for manufacturing of toys.
In Domestic
In construction
In packaging
In wire and cables
In clothing
In medical
In automotive
ii) Second Full form of PVC
The another full form of PVC is Permanent Virtual Circuit.
Permanent Virtual Circuit is a logical communication path between the two terminals in an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and in a frame relay based networks.
PVC doesn’t require reestablishing every time when the data is sent, compared to Switched Virtual Circuit (SVC). And it does not disappear after sending the data.
The data is maintained between terminals, once PVC is established.
